Week 1: Interface Overview & Equipment Basics
- What is an interface?
- Key factors to consider when selecting an interface (e.g., inputs/outputs, connection types).
- Overview of JamSpot’s recording equipment, from small and large interfaces to digital mixers like the X32.
- Understanding TS, TRS, and XLR cables.
- Introduction to popular microphones for home recording (e.g., SM57, SM58, and large diaphragm condenser mics).
- Homework: Research audio interfaces.
Week 2: Introduction to DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations)
- Overview of DAW options (free and paid).
- What are DAWs used for?
- Strengths and weaknesses of different DAWs.
- Tips for selecting the right DAW based on your needs.
- Homework: Download a DAW and the provided STEMS from your instructor.
Week 3: Basic Recording & STEM Importing
- Step-by-step guide to capturing audio: connecting your mic to the interface and recording in a DAW.
- How to import and organize tracks in your DAW.
- Labeling and organizing tracks effectively.
- Homework: Create a basic mix using the imported STEMS.
Week 4: Mixing Fundamentals
- Hands-on mixing: adjusting levels using faders.
- Introduction to EQ and compression basics.
