Designing the JamSpot Sound

Meet Steve Folsom

Our sound guru, Steve Folsom, has been in the concert touring industry for over 20 years.

When he's not out mixing shows for the likes of Melissa Etheridge, John Hiatt or Jewel, he can be found designing multi-zone sound systems for trade shows and staged corporate events. Recent clients include Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Motorola & Fidelity Investments.

From the Rat in Boston to London's Albert Hall; Somerville Cable Access or Saturday Night Live; Boston Music Awards and the Grammy's, Folsom has had experience in any audio situation you can imagine.

Thanks to Steve, all our rooms are equipped and acoustically engineered to give you the top quality sound the pros get.

The JamSpot Sound Is Professionally Engineered

Have you ever noticed that the best seat in the house at most live performances is always near the sound guy? So did we...which is why we brought in one of the best sound engineers in the business to create professional-caliber sound in every JamSpot studio.
In order to design the largest sweet spots possible in each of our sound-proofed studios, our man Steve utilizes a single point-source speaker array rather than the typical stereo pair. This approach cuts reflection and phase incoherence to a minimum.
The audio ensemble was selected with more than acoustics in mind. We also wanted enough techno-variety to satisfy a wide range of styles and tastes.
Steve and the team auditioned equipment from most major manufacturers. In the end, we chose to go with name brands that are readily available at your local music store, should you like to demo something outside of the store environment.
We selected gear that makes it difficult for one instrument to overpower the others. We wanted to avoid that 'snowballing' effect where everyone keeps turning up and having to sing harder. That's not only bad for you in Room #1, it's also bad for your neighbor in Room # 2.
We also went with drums that are very easily adjustable. The same goes for the bass amp - too many knobs hinder more often than help.
The whole idea of The JamSpot Sound is simple: you get to sound sensational and you don't waste precious playing time fiddling with the gear.
