JamSpot is pleased to intro­duce a new series of Jazz Work­shops to be held @ JamSpot in Somerville. Led by well-know local musi­cian and music edu­ca­tor John Frazee (MA Music Edu­ca­tion, Boston Con­ser­va­tory) the Jazz Work­shops @ JamSpot will be offered for both begin­ner and advanced play­ers, with sep­a­rate pro­grams for kids aged 12–17 and adults. All instru­ments are welcome.

JAZZ WORKSHOPS

ADULT BEGINNER — cov­ers begin­ning impro­vi­sa­tion tech­niques along with early blue­sand jazz stan­dards by artists such as Fats Waller, Duke Elling­ton, Louis Armstrong.Learn to play famous songs like “St Louis Blues,” “Sweet Geor­gia Brown” and “AinʼtMisbehavin.” All instru­ments welcome!

ADULT ADVANCED — cov­ers advanced jazz impro­vi­sa­tion tech­niques along with musicin a vari­ety of jazz styles such as swing, bebop and cool. Also offered are groups that­play con­tem­po­rary gen­res like world beat and jazz fusion. All instru­ments welcome!

KIDʼS BEGINNER– cov­ers begin­ning impro­vi­sa­tion, music and jazz the­ory. We learn fun­songs such as “When the Saints Go March­ing In” “and more. All instru­ments welcome!

KIDʼS ADVANCED — cov­ers jazz impro­vi­sa­tion tech­niques and music the­ory. We play­more advanced music with an empha­sis on improved music read­ing. The work­shop­slearn songs of dif­fer­ent jazz styles like swing, bebop and cool jazz. Learn to play the­mu­sic of Duke Elling­ton, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and oth­ers. All instrumentswelcome!
