Intermediate Rock Workshop (@ JamSpot in Somerville)

PLEASE NOTE: THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD @ JAMSPOT IN SOMERVILLE (DIRECTIONS)

In this work­shop we will play mostly clas­sic and mod­ern rock,  using music from Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Bad Com­pany and oth­ers, as well as orig­i­nal com­po­si­tions. Group mem­bers are encour­aged to bring new ideas to the group.  We’ll spend a lot of time on tempo, dynam­ics, tex­ture and musi­cal detail, with spe­cial atten­tion to vocal harmonies.

After about 10–12 weeks, this group will have an oppor­tu­nity to play a gig, either in the Show­case Room @ JamSpot or at a local club. Depend­ing on the band mem­bers, the group may also seek addi­tional gigs or per­haps go into the recording studio.

All instru­ments are wel­come but please note that as this work­shop oper­ates as a group,  space will be lim­ited (e.g. only 1 drum­mer), so sign up today!

The Music Work­shops at JamSpot get you play­ing in a band with­out any of the has­sles. Each work­shop is formed from play­ers from around the area with sim­i­lar musi­cal tastes and skill levels.

Sup­ported by a work­shop leader, the group will develop and learn a set of songs, expe­ri­enc­ing the dynam­ics of work­ing as a team and improv­ing indi­vid­ual playing skills.

Our work­shop lead­ers are pro­fes­sional musi­cians and expe­ri­enced music teach­ers who really know their stuff. They come to each ses­sion with a set of songs to play (sug­ges­tions are always wel­come!), help each player learn their part and lead the group through the song list. We usu­ally run through 4–5 songs at each ses­sion and we often record the best ver­sions onto a CD you can take home with you.

We offer work­shops in many styles, from clas­sic rock to funk, blues, R&B, Motown and coun­try. Most work­shops are offered in the evenings from 7:30–9:30pm. We pro­vide all of the equip­ment, includ­ing drums and keyboards.
