JamSpot is pleased to introduce a new series of Jazz Workshops to be held @ JamSpot in Somerville. Led by well-know local musician and music educator John Frazee (MA Music Education, Boston Conservatory) the Jazz Workshops @ JamSpot will be offered for both beginner and advanced players, with separate programs for kids aged 12–17 and adults. All instruments are welcome.

Emerson Students work with JamSpot on Marketing Program

This past Spring, a group of Emerson College students worked on a special project developing marketing and advertising programs for JamSpot. The project, which was developed by Emerson Marketing Communications Professor Laurie Raveis as part of her Consumer Behavior Class, provided students with a real-world opportunity to analyze and develop solutions for some of the marketing challenges faced by a small business in the creative entertainment industry.

The class was broken into groups according to customer segments (kids, teens, professional and amateur musicians, etc. ), and each group was responsible for producing an opportunity analysis and marketing materials for their segment. Each group then presented their final reports to JamSpot CEO John Mazzone.

Commenting on the presentations, Mazzone said “I was blown away by how well each group understood our business. The creative thinking was amazing-and very helpful: We’ve already used some of the ideas from the class in a full page ad in Noise Magazine we’re rolling out a second ad in Metronome Magazine. Our thanks to Emerson, Professor Raveis and the members of the Consumer Behavior class for a terrific job! ”

“Roobarb” and “Where’s Phil?” rock JamSpot in Wakefield

On Saturday, May 7, two of TJ’s “3 Chords to the Stage” workshop bands made their debut with a rockin’ performance in front of an enthusiastic crowd of family and friends. Billy Jenks, JamSpot’s Director of Music Programs was the MC and host for the evening.

The first band to play was “Roobarb”, featuring Laurie on lead guitar and vocals, Randy on bass and vocals, Steve and Craig trading drumming and percussion seats throughout the performance, and TJ on guitar and vocals. Roobarb played an inspired 30 minute set of classic rock tunes from Tom Petty, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top and Susan Tedeski.

Following Roobarb was “Where’s Phil?”, a band created out of TJ’s Monday evening 3Chord workshop. Where’s Phil? features Glenn, Randy and Paul on guitars and vocals, John on bass, the almighty Johnny S on drums and vocals and TJ on guitar and vocals. The band played an eclectic set, putting their unique spin on songs from Warren Zevon, Tom Waits, Tab Benoit, Elvis and Robert Palmer.

The 2 groups joined together to close the night with a rousing version of the Eddie Money classic “Two Tickets to Paradise”, which included a special guest Henry on guitar.
